Did Michael Jackson Have a Mental Illness?

Since I've been talking about celebrities and Bipolar Disorder, I came upon news about Michael Jackson's family. Rebbie Jackson, who is Michaels Jackson's oldest sister, has a daughter named Yashi Brown.  Rebbie has come public about Yashi having Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia. ( Rebbie Jackson about daughter)   For people who don't know, when Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia are combined, it is called Schizoaffective Disorder .  We know that mental illnesses such as Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia run in families.  This made me think about Michael Jackson.  Michael Jackson had a fantastic career and is viewed as the greatest pop start ever by a large amount of people.  But was he normal?  We all know about the sexual assault cases against him, and how he said everyone should share their bed with a child.  We also know about Neverland Ranch and how it was filled with amusement park rides.  We also know he suffered from drug addictions at times, and that his skin mysteriously changed color from dark to light.  Or the change in his nose over time that appeared to get smaller and smaller.  He also got skinnier over time.  He also paraded his kids around with their faces covered.  He was an outgoing performer with confidence in his abilities, yet reclusive later in his life.  How could a man be so successful, yet so outlandish?  Did Michael Jackson suffer from Bipolar? Or something else maybe? we don't know, but we do now know that the genes run in his family, because his sister has come out about her daughter.  So lets look at the big three signs that I like to use when judging if someone had Bipolar?  Creativity: This speaks for itself. Michael Jackson became the greatest pop star of all time and invented dance moves such as the moonwalk. Drug Use:  It has been told by old friends that Michael Jackson struggled with drug addiction. (60% of People with Bipolar Disorder abuse drugs or alcohol) Suicide or Untimely Death: The exact details of Micheal Jackson's death are kind of a mystery.  We do know that he died while heavily sedated by a doctor so he could sleep.  Does this seem weird to any of you? Why did Micheal Jackson need to be sedated to sleep?  Micheal Jackson was only 50 years old when he died.  Micheal Jackson fits the big three criteria, but we will never be able to say exactly what was going on.  However, we do know that Bipolar Disorder ran in his family, which is highly genetic.  We also know about his immense success, his strange behavior, and the tragic way he died.  What do you all think?

    1. once i was on youtube and this kid claiming to know an acquaintance or family member of MJ said that Mike had schizophrenia as a child, according to on of Michael's brothers. I read that Mike was pimped out at a very young age by his own father to pedophiles in the music industry. This came from Jermain and a friend of one of Mike's cousins. They say Mike would go to these meetings late at night with grown ass men. when he came back, he would be crying and sick for weeks. this guy who use to perform with the jacksons said he caught mike having sex at the young age of 12 with this guy who was 20 years old. this other dude came out and said he molested mike when he was 9. he said mike would cry the whole time. i know that when a kid is molested repeatedly they exhibit destructive behavior, mood swings aggression. they also have these weird out of body experiences. they say it is like someone has taken your soul and you feel numb. if you look at mike when he was 14 his eyes are vacant and the expression in his voice is gone.

  2. Google Bipolar Insomnia suicide if you want the answer. The criticial criteria psychiatry now uses for evaluating stabilization of bipolar mood disroder is how well the patient is sleeping. Stress ignites hypomania which results in 'less need for sleep' which becomes insomnia which leads to more brain stress leading to mania. Insomnia a symptom of the depressive phase is even more catastrophic as persons will of course resort to self medicating to get some sleep. Mixheal Jackson's insomnia led to his death. The mystery is why he was not diagnosed and treated during on of his reputed hospitizations.

  4. Sorry, scratch comment #1. I just noticed that you accidentally spelled his name wrong once or twice, not constantly. It's kind of my pet peeve when people constantly do that.

I guess I'm just going through a combative mood. Again, I apologize.

  5. Yes, I thought about this also when I read about Rebbie's daughter. I also read somewhere that Michael was diagnosed with a mental illness as a child. The inability to sleep naturally for as long as Michael had experienced the problem is a definite indicator that he was dealing with a chemical imbalance of the brain which is descriptive of mental illness. It is just so sad that someone did not recognize the signs.

  8. I have wondered the very same things as have many of ny Friends. I loved MJ and always will do. I do have bipolar and have wondered whether he was actually diagnosed and what with, maybe we shall never know and why should we? It was private to him and his Family exactly what went on and maybe was the one thing that will remain so. Look at the Blanket incident? Showing Blanket off over the balcony, yes not exactly 100% safe or normal but he was an avid Disney fan was he doing a scene from The Lion King with Rafiki and Simba? The massive spending sprees (debt?)? Sleeping? Creativity? Going 'away for years' then coming back? Who Knows. Either way whatever he had he was the King of Pop and gave and did so much to Charity (loads people never even knew about) and was such an amazingly talented person that is fact in my eyes and let that positive element live on as he will always in my heart XXXXXX

  10. I have a 16-year old sister who suffered from bipolar disorder. She has been skipping school for about 2 years from now. Now she somehow overcame her illness by taking her medication. Rebbie's daughter should do the same. Besides that, what MJ should do in my suggestion was to steer clear of the drugs which causes side effects including insomnia. He should take yoga classes and meditate instead.

  12. the things MJ did were not so unusual like having a zoo, and helping kids, however his face alterations and make up wearing and all made people think of him as strange and appeared to be the symptoms of some other emotional problems. even from the time of "off the wall" he was saying he was lonely and told rolling stones he talks to the manequins in his room. i am sure there are a lot of things he saw as a child in show business that shook him up and i can imagine the pressures on a child like that. he seemed to cope by working. it appears, some sort of counseling would have helped him deal better with relationships and attaining balance as well coping with various issues he talked about alot to the media.
